The Alpharetta High School Choral Association is comprised of students, parents, choral music faculty, and others interested in supporting the Alpharetta High School Chorus. The purpose of the organization is to provide operating materials, human resources, and financial backing to supplement that which is provided by Alpharetta High School and Fulton County. The needs of the chorus determine the functions of the volunteer organization. Activities generally include chaperoning, transportation, fundraising, organizing, as well as planning, publicity, and backstage involvement in concerts and musical productions. Your participation is strongly encouraged.
Chorus Retreat (check the dates on the events page)
Each year the Alpharetta High School Chorus holds a weekend retreat at Camp Glisson in Dahlonega. We will leave after school on Friday and travel by bus to the camp. We stay in cabins, eat in the camp cafeteria, have many team-building activities, music rehearsals, a talent show, a campfire, and camaraderie with this exceptional group of young people. We will return to Alpharetta at 3:30 PM on Sunday, exhausted, but enriched, with many new friends and stories to tell. The cost for the weekend is $125.00, which includes lodging and all meals. The choral association will fund transportation. Payment and permission forms are due by September 7. If you have questions, feel free to email or call.
Uniform Rental: A $25 usage fee is charged for students to cover the cost of maintenance of the dresses and tuxedoes. This must be paid before the uniforms are distributed.
Cheesecake Sale: This is a terrific fundraiser. Last year, AHS Chorus raised over $6000. How much will we raise this year? That depends on you. Brochures will be distributed in August. If possible, plan to send one check for the whole amount, or at least checks for individual orders, made payable to Alpharetta Choral Association. That will make it much easier for our treasurer.
Honor Choruses: The All-State Chorus is sponsored by GMEA. Top singers from throughout the state converge in Savannah to perform under the direction of some well-respected conductors. The selection process includes two auditions. At the first one, in October, interested students will sing a prepared selection, scales, and sight-reading. This is followed by an aural/theory assessment. See the video on our links page. Those who pass the audition will be assigned to a chorus. The student will then buy and learn the music, to be tested on it for the second audition in January. To pass this audition the student must sing the music with a 70% accuracy rating to attend the All-State Chorus. Application fee is $18.00, which is due by September 7. By that time you must have your song selected and your accompaniment cd prepared.
GMEA also holds an All-State Reading Chorus in January for exceptional music readers. This application fee is also $18.

Choral Council: A group of students will be elected by their peers each year to assist the director and to be student leaders. The choral council meets weekly to share in the decision making process and organization of running the choral program. Please type the handbook agreement form and medical consent form and submit them to Mr. Yackley.
